On 20th October from 19.00 to 20.30 BST (UTC/GMT+1) celebrate three very different but exciting values-driven communities at an online workshop hosted by the Brahma Kumaris and the UK Values Alliance.

The world is a web of interlocking interactive communities though which we fulfil our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs, and connect with others in ways that give greater meaning and purpose to our lives.

We will celebrate the essence of three very different communities where people feel valued and respected and able to make a contribution tomaking the world a better place.

Speakers

**John McConnel**
John is a stress management trainer and former prison governor and social worker. He has a strong interest in the practical application of spiritual principles and insights in daily life and runs courses, workshops and retreats designed to empower people. He is the editor of Living Our Values: an inside-out approach to change your life for the better (2013) and the author of Breaking Through the Darkness – how to defeat, depression, anxiety and stress (2020).

**Onjali Q. Raúf**
Onjali is a multi award-winning children’s author and women’s and refugee human rights activist. She is the founder and CEO of Making Herstory which works to end the abuse, enslavement and trafficking of women and girls in the UK, and O’s Refugee Aid Team which mobilises aid convoys and funds to help frontline refugee response teams across northern France and beyond. She is the author of Sunday Times bestseller, The Boy at the Back of the Class, which won the Blue Peter Award and the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2019, the Sakura Medal of Japan in 2020 and the Janusz Korczak Prize in 2022 amongst others. She She was listed as one of BBC’s 100 most influential women from around the world in 2019 together with Greta Thunberg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Djamila Ribeiro and others. **Daxa Shah**
Daxa is the inspiring co-ordinator of ‘Inner Space Wembley’ – a free community centre in London that supports individuals, local communities and businesses in coping with the stresses of life today through a variety of self development courses, talks and raja yoga meditation. In 2014, she was recognised by the Mayor of Brent as a ‘Community Champion’ for her service to Wembley’s ethnically diverse population.

**Zina Manda**
Zina is the compassionate co-founder and owner of an award-winning community café in a medical centre in a part of London challenged by poverty and isolation. The Lounge Café is mainly staffed by volunteers in need of work experience and provides high quality, freshly cooked meals at affordable prices. It also runs a pay-forward scheme to feed customers who have no money, offers classes on how to eat well and cook on a budget, and supports asylum seekers and others in a variety of ways.
