My 31 Practices

Imagine if educational establishments were able to awaken young people to values as a foundation to make their own choices and decisions which could stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. This session provides an overview of a values program for schools and universities to deliver to students.

One of the benefits of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was that people had time to reassess what was important to them. This period presented an opportunity to use our values to deepen our understanding of what matters most in our lives, our sense of self, and connecting with others for community. Subsequently, many people made smaller or larger lifestyle choices, whether this was to schedule time to attend children’s events at school, work from home or change jobs, or even stop working altogether. Living in line with our values removes ambiguity, instils confidence, improves resilience and ultimately provides a greater sense of fulfilment and happiness. What more valuable skill could young people receive?

This session provides an overview of a values program for schools and universities to deliver to students. Fabienne Vailes of Flourishing Education and Alan Williams, creator of the my31Practices approach, take us through a step by step guide which helps to identify what is important to you (myValues), translates this into a set of behaviours (myPractices), and supports you to apply the approach every day (myExperiences).

The approach draws on the fields of mindfulness, psychology, neuroscience, affirmation, action learning, habit creation.

This program benefits the students individually and collectively, the teaching faculty facilitators, the establishment culture and the establishment brand. It’s a win-win-win-win-win!
