DR WERDIE VAN STADEN is professor of philosophy and psychiatry, and director of the Centre for Ethics and Philosophy of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria. He is honorary psychiatrist at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital, Pretoria, and editor-in-chief of the international journal Philosophy, Psychiatry & Psychology, published by Johns Hopkins University Press. As well as over 100 scholarly articles in medical and philosophy journals and books, he recently co-authored ‘Practising the Mental Health Care Act (2025)’. He is a director of the International College of Person-Centred Medicine, and International Lead at the Collaborating Centre for Values Based Practice, University of Oxford.
